our story

our story begins in 2019, when golden petal goods blossomed from the desire to give new life to second-hand home decor and promote more sustainable & eco-friendly lifestyles.

the shop is owned, operated & curated by me, Serena (with the generous help of friends and family who make appearances here and there!). curating my space in a way that makes me feel good has always been important to me. throughout my childhood i loved to scour antique stores and garage sales to find unique vintage pieces, and this biz has been a way for me to share that love with others. seeing how the pieces i source make people feel at home in their space and good about about themselves makes everything worth it.

Around 6 years ago I became more aware of the environmental impacts of fast fashion and overconsumption in the textile and retail industry. I began by making changes in my own life to be more sustainable. part of this effort was to shop almost exclusively second-hand for the clothing and housewares I needed. golden petal goods strives to educate others on the sustainability of shopping second-hand.

we believe buying vintage goods reduces pollution and waste in the textile industry. when shopping second hand it is still very possible to find a wide range of quality items & when sourcing for the shop we opt for materials and timeless styles that you won't ever tire of!

From 2019-2023, we operated exclusively as a home-based business with local pickup + shipping, and travelled to countless local markets to "peddle our wares".  In May 2023, we opened a private studio space at ARTlington studios which has allowed us to welcome others to browse our wares in person. Our studio has also given us the opportunity to have a workspace to create more handmade items including ceramics!

Although we started out offering exclusively vintage treasures and trinkets, we expanded our horizons to offer a range of handmade & modern items. From up- cycled lace produce bags, to prints & stickers, contemporary jewelry, hand-poured botanical beeswax candles and more. In 2024, we have been focusing on offering three core handmade categories: mini ceramics, pressed flower frames, and hand-painted custom pet portraits.

Our small, handmade collections of ceramics feature one of a kind, slow produced items, each item is made thoughtfully, by hand, in our studio from start to finish. Each piece is painted in detail by us, with a unique design. A small treasure to take home that is uniquely yours. Our specialty is tiny little vases with homegrown dried flowers, trinket dishes, and necklaces with ceramic pendants.

We have painted pet portraits since 2016, but only recently began to offer them within golden petal goods. Our portraits are a unique vintage style, painted to fit a second-hand frame of your choice which adds uniqueness and an up-cycled element to the piece.

Our pressed flower frames have been a handmade staple in the shop for years, featuring flowers that are homegrown or sustainably foraged, pressed and arranged by hand in a unique vintage frame. Many of our frames also include linocut prints made with hand-carved stamps.

We have a wide range of offerings, but they are curated to form a general store with a common theme: a deep-rooted connection in nature, flora, fauna, classical art and "all things golden".

in the studio, 95% of the packing materials we use are either second-hand, up-cycled, donated or compostable supplies. this means your order might be packaged differently from time to time, contain newspaper, re-used kraft paper, recycled boxes, mailers, bubble wrap and more. this might compromise on the packaging "aesthetic" but it is a compromise we'd happily take to reduce packaging waste.

We are an independent, women-owned small business that champions the motto “be local, buy local” and are active in supporting other small business in Winnipeg in our day to day life.

thanks for supporting us!
